I am excited to announce that one of our actors in Beautiful Thing has been nominated for a Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award! Michelle McKenzie-Voigt, who plays my mum (Sandra) in the show, has been nominated as a member of the Chicago Tonight staff in Category 10B: Outstanding Achievement for Public Affairs/Current Affairs Programming. Chicago Tonight, which first went on the air in 1984, is a nightly news/public affairs/entertainment program that airs LIVE Monday through Thursday from 7 to 8pm on WTTW Channel 11, the PBS station in Chicago.
In addition to Michelle’s “regular” job at WTTW as Facilities Manager, she is also a twice-weekly Segment Producer for Chicago Tonight. This is her fourth nomination; Michelle was nominated previously in the Individual Achievement category, once as talent and twice as Director for Chicago Tonight.
The Emmy Award ceremony is Sunday, November 18. She writes, “I cannot attend, as I have the sitzprobe that night for the musical COMPANY. But I will be sitting with cell phone in hand! And I am deeply honored to be included in the ‘company’ of my fellow Chicago Tonight colleagues, as this nomination is really for the program itself.”
